How do observation and participation hours work?

We recommend picking one or multiple studios around you where you'd love to teach once you're Certified, and get a membership, class pack, or drop-in to do your participation and observation hours there. This will allow you to get to know the studio's management, instructors and class style, and allow them to get to know you!

Participation hours are where you undertake classes at a studio, like you most likely already do! When it comes time to begin your observation hours, you will have likely attended quite a few (participation) classes at the studio(s), and you can ask if you can complete your observations there. Observation hours are where you sit in on a class, observe and take some notes. Studios should be okay with you doing these hours there, especially if they know you as a member of their community.

The practice teaching hours are for you to solidify everything you've learnt and practice your teaching skills on one other person of your choice. This is normally a good chance to practice your class plan, in the lead up to your final assessment! (As there is minimal equipment required for Mat, these practice teaching hours can be done anywhere you like. For Reformer, if you don't have a machine at home, normally your studio(s) will let you use or hire the machines outside of class times).

These practical hours can be done absolutely anywhere in the world. Following this process will help you land a teaching job in your dream studio(s) once you finish your training!
